Disability accommodations at work — what actually worked?

Jamie
I have MS and I just disclosed to my employer because I need accommodations. I'm terrified. My neurologist wrote a letter but I don't even know what to ask for. What accommodations have you actually gotten approved? What should I ask for that I'm not thinking of?

Jamie, disclosing is one of the bravest things you can do. One thing nobody told me — put EVERYTHING in writing. Every conversation, every accommodation agreed to, every email. Document document document. You've got this.

Fellow dev with fibro here. Things I got approved: flexible start time (I'm useless before 10am on bad days), permission to work from home when flaring, a standing desk with anti-fatigue mat, and all meetings recorded so I don't have to rely on my fog brain to remember everything.

Ask for a desk near the AC vent or a personal fan. Heat sensitivity with MS is no joke and most HR people have no idea. Also — ask for the option to shift your hours, not reduce them. Framing matters.

I have POTS and work remote full time now. The one thing I'd add is ask about ergonomic assessment. My company paid for a whole setup. They legally have to provide reasonable accommodations and most of this stuff is cheap for them.
