My new rheumatologist actually LISTENED to me

I am literally crying happy tears right now. After 3 years with a doctor who basically patted me on the head and told me to take ibuprofen, I finally saw a new rheumatologist today and she was... incredible. She asked me DETAILED questions about my symptoms. She looked at my previous labs AND ordered new ones. She actually examined my joints instead of just looking at me from across the room. And when I told her about the fatigue she said "of course you're fatigued, your body is fighting itself" instead of "have you tried sleeping more." She's changing my meds and wants to see me in 6 weeks. I feel like I finally have someone in my corner. Please don't settle for doctors who don't listen to you. It took me 3 tries but oh my god the difference.

This makes me so happy. A good rheumatologist makes ALL the difference. I went through a couple of bad ones before finding mine and the difference is night and day. The fact that she examined your joints, ordered comprehensive labs, AND acknowledged the fatigue? That's what good care looks like. Hold onto this doctor.

im so happy for you!!! the "have you tried sleeping more" comment from your old doctor made my blood pressure go up. glad youre done with that. a doctor who actually examines you... what a concept lol

Reading this just convinced me to switch doctors. I've been putting up with mine for way too long because switching felt like too much effort. But you're right — we deserve to be heard. So glad you found a good one.

the "of course you're fatigued, your body is fighting itself" line made me tear up a little. imagine if every doctor understood that. just having your experience VALIDATED makes such a difference even before the treatment changes.
