Went to my son's baseball game and stayed the whole time

I've missed so many of his games because of my lupus. The sun, the heat, the sitting on hard bleachers... it's a terrible combination. But yesterday I went prepared. UPF long sleeves, hat, SPF 70, brought a cushion, sat under the one tree near the field, and I lasted all 7 innings. My son kept looking over at me and grinning. He's 9 and he doesn't totally understand why mommy can't always be there but he knows I try. Seeing his face when he saw me in the stands... that's everything. I'm paying for it today. Full body ache, exhaustion, a little rash on my arms where the sunscreen apparently missed a spot. But I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

that part about him grinning when he saw you... I'm not crying you're crying. The lengths we go to for our kids. And the fact that you're paying for it today but would do it again — that's love. That's everything. Also the camping chair + umbrella combo is genius. I'm stealing that for outdoor events.

As a parent caregiver this hit me right in the heart. I know my daughter would do anything to be at her brother's events too. You showing up despite everything is not lost on your son. He will remember that forever. Rest up today. You earned it.

Your son saw his mom in the stands for all 7 innings and that memory will outlast any flare. Speaking as a husband who watches his wife make these exact sacrifices — you're doing amazing even when it doesn't feel like it.
