CBD/THC for pain management — honest experiences?

oldguitarplayer
I live in a legal state and my pain management doctor actually brought up cannabis as an option for my fibro pain. I was surprised because I didnt think "real doctors" recommended it. I know the research is mixed and theres a lot of hype from the weed industry side. But I also know people who swear by it and im honestly running out of pharmaceutical options that dont make me feel like a zombie. If youve tried CBD or THC for chronic pain: - Did it actually help the pain or just help you care less about it? (genuine question not being snarky) - What form worked best (edible, topical, oil, etc)? - Any strains or ratios you'd recommend? - Side effects? Im not looking for medical advice just honest personal experiences. I want to go into this eyes open.

ok so honest answer to your honest question: for me it helps the pain AND helps me care less about it. both. the pain itself goes from like a 7 to a 5 which is significant, and then mentally I'm more relaxed about the remaining pain if that makes sense. i use a 1:1 CBD:THC ratio tincture. the CBD seems to do more for the actual pain and the THC helps more with the mental aspect and sleep. i take it in the evening because the THC makes me foggy (lol more foggy) edible form worked best for me. smoking/vaping irritated my lungs and the onset was too fast. tincture or edibles let it come on gradually. side effects: dry mouth, increased appetite (hello snacks), and yeah the fog. i would not use it during work hours.

I tried CBD only (no THC) for about 3 months and honestly didn't notice much. Then I tried a low-dose THC edible and THAT helped noticeably with both pain and sleep. I think the key is finding the right dose. Too little does nothing, too much and you're on the couch staring at the ceiling for 4 hours (ask me how I know). Start with 2.5-5mg THC and go from there. Also: quality matters a LOT. The gas station CBD gummies are garbage. Get stuff from a legit dispensary with lab test results.

topical cbd cream has been weirdly effective for me. not for widespread pain but for specific areas. when my hands are really bad i rub it on and within about 20 min the pain decreases noticeably. could be placebo? maybe? but i dont care because it works for me havent tried thc yet. might eventually. just not quite there mentally

I use THC edibles for pain management, usually in the evening. For my AS it helps more with the muscle spasm/tightness component than the joint inflammation. I still need my regular meds for the inflammation but the cannabis helps with the stuff the meds don't fully address. I wouldn't call it a replacement for medication but it's a decent supplement to it.
